Have a try on our demonstation Online Work Area. Click the logo below to launch in another browser window. You can use the site as normal, creating users, uploading and downloading files. At midnight GMT every night, the site will be reset and all files and users will be lost.
This particular work area is configured to use some very simple branding. Your own work area will look very different, but have exactly the same functionality.
The owner of this fictitious work area is a company called Adams' Apples and one of the company directors is Alex.
Here are some things to try:
Logging on
Log in as Alex, using the following email: alex@adamsapples.com and password: apples
Explore the site, look at the projects that are available and the folders within them. You'll see that the "Internal Accounts" project is simple and uses only the default "Communal Folder" for storing files. The "Logistics" project has extra "Imports" and "Exports" folders for further organising the files.
Click on any of the files you see there to download them - they will all be blank files, put up there for demonstration purposes.
Adding and organising files
Try adding a new folder to any of the projects using the "Create folder" button, call it anything you like and press "Add".
You will now be on the page for your new folder. Click the "Show me" button in the middle of the folder to activate the Upload Widget and if your browser pops up a window asking for permission then press "Run" or "OK". The Upload widget should now show as a green target - drag any file from your computer onto the target and it will upload to the folder.
QuickSend
Click on "QuickSend" in the main menu. In the "Recipients" box, type in your own email address. Choose a file from your computer and drag it to the green target. Add a subject and suitable message and press "Send".
After a few minutes, you will receive an email link which will allows you to access that file without needing to be registered on the system.
Add yourself as a new user and share a file
Click on "Projects" in the main menu and then "Add a new company". Call the company anything you like and press "Add".
Click on "Add more contacts", put in your email address and press "Add contacts".
Click on the name of the project that you added a folder to (above) and then click the "Project properties" box. Tick the box next to your new company and then click "Save".
Click the name of your new folder in the "Folders" list. Underneath the new file you uploaded is the word "share" in green - click on that. Next to your email address is an "Add share" button - click on that.
Click on "Logout" in the main menu.
Registration and configuration
In a few minutes you will receive an email from this work area telling you that you have a new file to access. Click on the link given in the email.
At the site, you will be asked to provide a new password and then you will have access to the work area as yourself. You will see that none of the previous projects and folders are accessible to you except the one file that Alex (who you were logged in as before) shared with you.
